OUR APPROACH
We work towards a new era of community collaboration and accountability — adapted to the mechanics and challenges of our new world.
Correcting the balance of power
When communities are excluded from shaping the decisions that affect their lives, interventions lack relevance, power inequalities are heightened and divisions can intensify.
It’s time to hold the system to account. We support communities to access power and help organisations make room at the table.
INFORMATION IS AID
In times of crisis the decisions people make can reverberate for generations. Information is power. If it’s outdated, inaccurate, irrelevant or untrustworthy, it is at best worthless and at worst deadly.
We help develop responsive and trusted information interventions that enable people to reclaim control of their futures.
Modernising response
Social media has transformed the nature of modern crises and how communities interact and interpret the world. From Syria, to Libya, to Myanmar, the battle for peoples’ hearts, minds and decisions has taken place in their phones.
But crisis-response has struggled to keep up and grasp the gravity of these new spheres of power and influence. The failure of organisations to engage with communities on social media has led to a disparity in the way they interpret reality. Whilst they may be in the same physical location, they operate in mental silos, with very different narratives on and perspectives of situations.
The world has changed and so must we. We help responders harness social media in a protection-centered way to engage, inform and understand.
people not platforms
In the last five years the humanitarian sector has raced to embrace technology as a catch-all-solution. Huge resources have been channelled into apps and digital solutions that haven’t been used by communities.
We favour a platform-agnostic approach. We meet communities where they are, online or off, to tailor initiatives to their preferences.
Tackling misinformation where it lives
Social media is designed to amplify sensation over truth. For communities in crisis, the result is cascades of misinformation and rumours that throw information ecosystems into chaos.
When information is in abundance, trust becomes even more important. We help communities and responders tackle misinformation through responses that are as resonant and relevant as that which misleads.
Diverse perspectives and expertise
The challenges of today are too complex to be tackled from a single perspective or skill-set. We fuse expertise and best practice from the humanitarian, digital communications and technology sectors to tackle problems holistically.
